Our
History:
Our chorus began in the summer of 1999 when a small group of women became
determined to realize their shared dream of
singing OUT! together as a means of giving back to -- and connecting with -- all
women. Many of our founding mothers have
moved on to other things since then, but they will always have a warm place in
our hearts. We've been privileged to have many
new women join us, to continue our collective dream of singing OUT! for a better
world. More about us.
Our Artistic
Director:
Artistic Director & Conductor Claudia Frost joined us in February 2005,
bringing her many years of vocalist and conducting
experience to her role as Artistic Director of WSO. She also brings warmth,
humor, energy, and enthusiasm to the job, making
rehearsals both challenging and fun. Claudia's love of choral music for women
and her appreciation for music written by women
composers makes her an excellent fit for the WSO mission, and her technical
expertise continues to inspire us to become better
musicians. Claudia has degrees in music education and choral conducting from
Boston University and Westminster Choir College,
and she is the conductor for the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District
chorus. She has also been a volunteer conductor at the
women's prison in Framingham for the past five years. It is our great privilege
to follow Claudia's baton through our rehearsals and
concerts, but it is also our privilege to call this remarkable woman our friend!
Our Accompanist:
Accompanist Kimberley Karchenes is
our accompanist, and she brings considerable wit and charm to that task. Since
some of us do
not read music, Kim's skill on the keyboard is an invaluable asset as we learn
each piece. Kim has also done double-duty, conducting
as well as playing while our Artistic Director was on vacation. We love her
energy and her humor, and we very much appreciate her
musical abilities. More about
Kim.
